WorldGuessr Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Daylight Studio ("Daylight Studio," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use WorldGuessr (package name: com.daylightstudio.worldguessr) on Meta Quest and related services.

WorldGuessr is a VR geography guessing game. The app uses maps, street-level imagery, panorama tiles, game rounds, clues, local app storage where available, and account- or session-based gameplay records to let you look around real-world places and guess where you are. To support gameplay, WorldGuessr may use a user ID or session ID to associate access status, progress, scores, settings, or saved gameplay data with the correct app account or guest session.

Overview

We collect only the information needed to operate WorldGuessr, provide VR geography guessing gameplay, load map and street-level content, maintain account sessions, verify access permission where applicable, save gameplay progress or settings where available, improve reliability, and respond to support or deletion requests. User IDs and session IDs are used to identify the correct app account or guest session for these features, not for third-party advertising or ad targeting.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for third-party advertising or ad targeting.

Information We Collect

Depending on how you use WorldGuessr, we may process the following information:

Account, entitlement, and in-app access information. When you use WorldGuessr on Meta Quest, the app may use Meta Platform services to check app entitlement, verify access permission to paid content or features where applicable, and identify the signed-in Meta Quest user. This may include your Meta user ID and purchase or entitlement status as provided by Meta Platform. We may associate this platform identity with a WorldGuessr backend user ID so the app can maintain sessions and account-linked gameplay features.
Guest and app session information. If a Meta account session is not available, the app may create a guest session. We may store a backend user ID, guest or session ID, session provider, and access token so the app can communicate with our services and keep gameplay records linked to the correct guest session.
Gameplay and guess information. When you play WorldGuessr, we may process game mode, round ID, panorama ID, actual location coordinates, your guessed coordinates, distance from the correct location, score, time used, hint or clue status, difficulty level, progress, results, and timestamps. This information is used to run game rounds, calculate results, show scores, and save progress or gameplay history where available.
Map, street-level, and selected-place information. When the app loads a round, displays the guessing map, shows results, or requests street-level content, we may process language preference, selected latitude and longitude, zoom level, panorama ID, tile coordinates, and related place or address metadata. This information is used to find and display the requested map, street-level, panorama, and result content.
Local history, settings, and preferences. If available, WorldGuessr may store gameplay history, selected settings, comfort options, language preference, recently played rounds, and related app preferences on your device using local app storage.
Device, network, and diagnostics information. When the app connects to our services or platform services, we and our service providers may process technical information such as IP address, request URLs, response status, error messages, device or platform type, app version, crash or diagnostic information, and server logs.

WorldGuessr does not intentionally collect your GPS location or continuous real-time physical location. The coordinates processed by the app are the game locations, map positions, guesses, or places you view inside the WorldGuessr experience.

WorldGuessr does not intentionally collect microphone audio, camera images, contacts, photos, payment card details, eye tracking, face tracking, body tracking, or precise physical-room data. If we add features that require additional data, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any required notices or permissions.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

confirm app entitlement and verify access permission to paid content or features on Meta Quest where applicable;
create and maintain guest, Meta, and backend app sessions;
generate, load, and display VR geography guessing rounds;
load map, street-level, panorama, preview, and tile content;
process guesses, calculate distance and scores, and display gameplay results;
save game progress, gameplay history, settings, or scores where available;
debug network, rendering, account, gameplay, and reliability issues;
protect the app, users, and our services from fraud, abuse, and security issues;
respond to support, privacy, access, correction, and deletion requests.

How We Share Information

We share information only as needed to provide WorldGuessr, comply with law, protect users and services, or complete actions you request.

Service providers and infrastructure. We may share information with service providers, including Cloudflare, that support hosting, API routing, content delivery, security, Workers, logging, diagnostic, and related infrastructure services that help operate WorldGuessr.
Map and street-level content providers. Coordinates, panorama IDs, tile coordinates, map requests, and similar request data may be sent to map, geocoding, street-level imagery, panorama, and content delivery services to return the content needed for gameplay and results.
Meta Platform. Meta may process information related to Quest account identity, entitlement, platform services, store distribution, diagnostics, and device operation according to Meta's own policies.
Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if required by law or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, security, or the integrity of WorldGuessr.

We do not sell personal information and do not share personal information with third parties for their own advertising purposes.

Third-Party Services

WorldGuessr may rely on the following types of third-party services:

Meta Quest, Meta Platform, and Meta Horizon services for app entitlement, identity, store distribution, and platform operation;
Unity engine components and platform diagnostic services used by the app or development environment;
Daylight Studio APIs and Cloudflare infrastructure, including CDN endpoints, API routing, security, Workers, logging, preview image services, tile worker services, and related technical services;
map, geocoding, street-level imagery, panorama, and content delivery services used to return the places and images needed for gameplay.

Third-party services may collect or process information under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of Meta, Unity, Cloudflare, and any applicable map or content providers.

Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law, security, dispute resolution, or service integrity needs.

Session tokens, user IDs, and guest session IDs may remain on your device until you clear app data, sign out where available, or uninstall the app.
Local gameplay history, settings, and preferences remain on your device until you clear them in the app, clear app data, or uninstall the app.
Cloud gameplay data, progress, or scores remain associated with your backend user ID, Meta user ID, or guest session ID until you request deletion or the data is no longer needed for the purposes described in this policy.
Server logs and diagnostic records are retained for a limited period for security, debugging, and service reliability.

Your Choices and Deletion Requests

You can control certain data directly in the app and on your device:

you can clear local gameplay history or settings using the app's controls where available;
you can clear local app data or uninstall the app to remove locally stored session, gameplay, and settings data from your device;
you can manage Meta Quest account and platform data through Meta's account and device settings.

To request access to, correction of, or deletion of information held by Daylight Studio, contact us at [email protected]. Please include enough information for us to identify your WorldGuessr account or session, such as your Meta user ID, WorldGuessr backend user ID, guest/session ID, or other relevant information if you know it. We may need to verify your request before deleting account-linked data.

Children's Privacy

WorldGuessr is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information processed by WorldGuessr. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Processing

WorldGuessr may be used globally. Your information may be processed in countries or regions other than where you live. These places may have different data protection laws from your country or region.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app, on our website, or through the platform.
